This is one of my VERY first clients! Juliette was born just two weeks apart from my Ellie and I photographed Juliette when she was just a few months old. I had just launched my business. Deborah and I became fast friends and I was so sad when they moved to Carmel. So, although I get to see them a couple times a year with our shoots and Deborah and I get to escape together for the occasional lunch, it's not quite the same. I guess the solution is me moving to Carmel?! Ha! :)
Their house is absolutely stunning and the kids are really happy there so we decided to do the shoot in their front and backyard. I brought my whole off camera flash with softbox set up knowing that for an active, always in motion family of five with quickly disappearing light in a gorgeous backyard where I wanted to showcase the luscious landscaping I would need lots and lots of light. It was a life saver!
Juliette is the big sister. She is quite the precocious little girl and always has me in stitches with her little quirps. She has JUST lost her first tooth the night before. She starts Kindergarten this year and it's so cute listening to her talk about it with all that giddy anticipation. She is also my little muse being that she is far from camera shy.
Adrianna is the middle child. She is exquisitely tricky to photograph. She sees the camera and either sticks out her tongue, closes her eyes or just runs away laughing at me. I have learned that the best way to photograph her is to just rest the camera on my shoulder (as though I am not using it) and engage her while surreptitiously clicking away. I do lose quite a few shots doing it that way but the gems I do get are worth all the effort!
Oh my, how I adore this next shot!
Mr. Joshua started out quite apprehensive about the whole process but quickly warmed up to it all. Before long he was Mr. Rico Suave charming the socks off me. He's going to be dangerous that one. Good thing I am not his mom, I could never say no to that face.
Joshua and his daddy. :)
Ok, so I realize this may not be the one they pick for their huge canvas in their living room but I honestly love EVERYTHING about this next shot. The group dynamic is awesome! :)
Besides making beautiful babies together, Deborah and Charlie also happen to be a gorgeous, funny and super sweet couple too! The nerve! :)
Siblings. In all their wonderfulness.
Ok, I'll admit it, there was some serious bribing going on here. In the form of oreo cookies. A note to any clients of any photographer out there: NO oreo cookies! It's a full on tooth brushing session after those! HA! Lesson learned.... :) But oh-so-worth-it.
